How to Publish a Wordpress Site Today.

Making Sense of the Internet, Google, Hosting, and all of these non-sense words.

Since 2003, I have been working at building websites, learning different types of code, generally learning how the internet works and helping my clients to better understand the internet.  Almost immediately after getting trained in at my first job at a major tech company, I couldn’t help but wondering why all of the terminology for the web seemed purposely confusing.  Domain names, a records and MX records, IP addresses, hosting, forwarding, SEO indexing, hyperlinks, it just felt like when the nerds were setting up the internet they took every opportunity to make sure that anyone couldn’t just stumble onto the internet and start figuring things out.

You Can Do It.  You CAN Build a Successful Website

While a lot of the jargon around the web and building a new website can be confusing and complex, you CAN BUILD A SUCCESSFUL WEBSITE.  The fact of the matter is, the success or failure of your website is going to be a function of how good your idea for your website is, and how disciplined you are about consistently executing that idea.  The website is really just a means to an end, specifically, how you show people what a great idea you have.  Start with the idea, because if you start by trying to “learn how to build a website” it’s very easy to fall into a cycle of never feeling like you’ve accomplished anything.  There is so much to learn, and that’s exciting, but if you want to get your idea / blog / business / church / campaign online, you need to start by understanding a few internet basics, and this website will (hopefully) teach them to you in clear, concise language that is easy to understand.

I know that most people who are trying to build a new WordPress website are not going to follow this entire guide step by step, and that’s OK.  I want everyone to easily be able to find what they are looking for, whether that’s a comprehensive step by step guide or just an answer to get them around a problem as quickly as possible.
